Cellfina

Cellfina is an exciting new treatment that is used to treat unwanted cellulite. Cellfina is the only FDA approved, minimally invasive procedure that is used to treat and reduce the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thighs.  Cellulite is caused by the presence of fibrous bands that tether down the skin. This causes a dimpled appearance.  Cellfina works by treating cellulite at its very cause.  Using the Cellfina device, the doctor will cut your fibrous bands directly, releasing the skin. This results in smoother appearing skin and reduction of cellulite.

Goal

To reduce the appearance of dimpled cellulite in the buttocks and thighs.

The Procedure

The dimpled cellulite is marked and the procedure is planned . The doctor will then place the Cellfina vacuum guidance system over the pre-marked cellulite dimples.  A gentle vacuum suction brings the treated areas into the Cellfina device and a numbing injection is performed. Once numb, a motorized microblade is then guided beneath the skin and the ficrous cellulite bands are cut in multiple directions and multiple depths.  The vacuum is then released and the procedure is complete.

Anesthesia

Cellfina is a minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthetic.

Length Of Time

The amount of time varies based upon the individual and how many cellulite areas need to be treated.  The procedure averages approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

After Procedure

Most patients go home comfortably after the procedure. Many patients will drive themselves back and forth from the procedure.

Recovery

There is no real downtime from the procedure.  There can be some mild soreness and tenderness of the areas treated. This resolves over the next few days and most patients do not even require any medication. .  If necessary, a mild analgesic like Tylenol is usually sufficient for pain control. Bruising may occur and resolves with time.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is the appearance of dimpling of the skin, usually within the region of the buttocks and upper thighs. Cellulite is present in 80-90% of women.

What causes cellulite?

Cellulite is caused by the presence of fibrous connective tissue bands that run through the fat beneath the skin.  These fibrous bands attach to the skin and create the dimpling effect seen on the surface of the skin.  This is shown in the following diagram:cellulite treatment in palm beach

How does Cellfina work to treat cellulite?

Cellfina treats the cellulite at it’s very cause.  The device is positioned over the cellulite dimple using the Cellfina vacuum guidance system.  Once this is done a needle-sized micro-motor is then used to cut the fibrous bands that create the cellulite dimple. The ficrous bands are cut in multiple locations and at multiple depths in order to assure that the bands are released from the skin.  The skin then springs back like a rubber band, reducing and/or eliminating the appearance of the cellulite dimple.

How is Cellfina different then any other treatment available for cellulite reduction?

Cellfina treats cellulite by specifically targeting the fibrous bands that create cellulite dimples.  Other devices that have claimed to treat cellulite worked by trying to tighten the skin, thicken the skin, or only partially releasing the bands. Cellfina’s approach is to treat the structural cause of the cellulite. This vide describes the Cellfina procedure.

Does it hurt?

No.  Cellfina is performed under local anesthetic.  You will feel a small pinch as the anesthetic numbs the area, however the vacuum suction that assists in treating the area, masks much of the discomfort.

How long will my Cellfina results last?

In the research performed for FDA approval, results were shown to last at least 2 years in the vast majority of patients who had the procedure.  That is a good indications that Cellfina provides very long lasting results.

How many treatments will I need?

The Cellfina procedure is a one time treatment.

When will I see my results?

Results from Cellfina are seen immediately and will improve as the swelling subsides.  If bruising occurs, it generally resolves within 2 weeks, but can take longer in some people.
