Jaw Reduction

Jaw Reduction Frequently Asked Questions

How does jaw reduction with Botox or Dysport work?
The masster muscle is a large muscle that runs along the jaw and inserts onto the lower jaw line.  This muscle is very thick and can result in the appearance of a square face and square jaw line.  Botox and Dysport are injectable neuro-modulators that weaken the muscle at the points of injection. This effectively reduces the thickness of the muslce in those locations.  By reducing the size of the muscle along the jaw line, the jaw and face will appear less square and more angular in appearance.

Am I a candidate for jaw reduction with Botox or Dysport?
Most people are good candidates for this procedure, however Dr. Steiger will first examine you to determine if you are an eligible candidate for jaw reduction.

How are the jaw reduction injections performed?
Dr. Steiger will first map out the masseter muscle and determine where to place the injections in order to achieve the best possible result. The injections are then placed with a small needle.

Does jaw reduction with Botox hurt?
No. Most of our patients remark at the relative lack of discomfort from this procedure. Dr. Steiger will take steps to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.

How long does this last?
Most of our patients only require a treatment once a year.  This can vary from person to person.

Is botox or dysport for jaw reduction only for Asian patients?
No. Although this is commonly performed in patients who are Asian, anyone is a candidate for the procedure. Anyone who would like a slimmer appearing face at the jaw line may gain benefit if they are deemed an appropriate candidate.

Are there any restrictions after the procedure?
The Botox / Dysport is injected directly into the muscle, exactly where it needs to be. We ask that you not rub or massage your face for 24 hours after the procedure in order to prevent migration of the Dysport or Botox.

Do you treat out of town patients?
